Siz
Rua das Dálias, in Carrasqueira, Sesimbra: in a studio crowded with fabric swatches, design books and cacti, Raquel and Sofia cut and sew. The twin sisters, bound by a shared passion for fashion design, research, draw their own patterns, test the prototypes, cut and then assemble. Everything happens in Portugal, in their atelier or in small ateliers nearby, and never in series: each piece comes out unique. From the first sketch to the parcel that ships, the work stays in their hands.
The cloth rarely starts life on a new roll. SIZ works with offcuts and deadstock fabrics salvaged from a Portuguese factory, organic cotton, lotus, wooden buttons and recycled metal zips. Larger scraps become bags or tops, old jeans are taken apart for their denim. The aim the brand holds to: bring waste as close to zero as possible.
The wardrobe sits in a register the sisters sum up as 'Clean and Crafty': urban, casual, dynamic. The certified fabrics come from India, Portugal, Turkey and Germany. When extra hands are needed for pattern-cutting or sewing, local Portuguese makers lend theirs.
