Epicuirienne
Salmon leather and cowhide, cut and stitched by hand in Belgium.
A kitchen table, a handful of leather swatches, the smell of hide: this is where Epicuirienne began, when Frédérique Dewez decided to follow a childhood instinct. From her Belgian workshop, she cuts and stitches bow ties and belts by hand, from leathers she has chosen one by one. The grain of each skin guides her hands, so no two pieces are ever quite alike.
The choice of material is unusual. The bow ties are made from upcycled salmon leather, recovered from the food industry and tanned in Lyon, fine-grained with a shifting depth of colour. The belts are built on cowhide tanned in Comines, Belgium, paired with traceable metal buckles, mostly crafted in Italy, whose origin is always clearly indicated. Everything is then cut, assembled and checked piece by piece, in Belgium.
Certified as an artisan since 2021, the brand claims full traceability, from the raw skin to the final stitch, and guarantees every piece for five years against manufacturing defects. It reaches beyond the object: workshops are already offered to people with disabilities, and a social ambition is taking shape, with the aim of investing 30% of profits in intergenerational projects chosen with its community. This is leatherwork that stands behind its gestures as much as its commitments.

Why we love this brand
Few makers stitch their bow ties from recovered salmon leather, fewer still can name every stage from skin to seam. At Epicuirienne, everything comes from a single pair of hands, in Belgium, and each purchase already funds workshops for people with disabilities.

The bow ties
This is the piece that sums up the brand. Each bow tie is cut from upcycled salmon leather, recovered from the food industry and tanned in Lyon: a marine leather with a fine grain, its depth of colour shifting from one skin to the next. The stitching is done by hand, in Belgium, and the neckband adjusts (up to 44 cm). The palette runs from forest green to red, through brown, navy and powdery tones such as pink and beige, ready for a wedding, a cocktail evening or a work event. Each piece is delivered in an eco-designed box, and other sizes and colours are offered on request.
The belts, the leather
Here, the belt is ordered to the right length: you enter your waist measurement in centimetres, and the strap is cut accordingly. The leather is cowhide recovered from the food industry (France, Germany, Spain, Italy), then tanned in Comines, Belgium. Cutting and assembly are done by hand, with the grain and patina of each skin left visible, which makes every belt slightly different. On the piece we looked at, the leather comes in four shades (Havane, Naturel, Victoria and Chocolat), easy to wear day to day or at the office. It is made to last and to patina over time, guaranteed for five years.
The buckles
The buckle is what tips one and the same belt from one register to another. All are made of metal and mounted in Belgium onto the leather strap, mostly crafted in Italy, with each origin clearly indicated. Two families emerge. On one side, clean buckles with a matte or brushed finish, sport-chic in spirit, cut out for the office and the city. On the other, more architectural buckles, in openworked metal, playing the graphic statement and catching the eye. Depending on the buckle, the same strap turns understated or assertive, quiet under a jacket or the focal point of an outfit.
