Saskia Jacobs went looking for a bed for Sif, her dachshund: something handsome enough for her interior, comfortable for the dog, easy to take away for the weekend and washable. Finding no such thing, she sewed her own, first in a "denim classic" version, and founded Studio Sif in 2017. Everything still leaves her atelier in Bokhoven (Den Bosch), in the Netherlands. The Pooch Pouch, a round basket handmade in a single piece, sits at the centre of it. Saskia cuts it from interior fabrics, plush teddy, woven bouclé, chenille or faux leather, with some editions lined in faux fur. Handles built into the matching fabric let you carry it from room to room, and it goes into the machine at 30°C. It is made for the road as much as the living room: light enough to follow the dog by car, by boat, in a camper, even rolled up and vacuum-packed in a suitcase. The basket holds the animal's scent, a familiar marker in an unfamiliar place. Saskia treats it as an interior accent to be swapped as the mood takes you, the way you change the cushions on a sofa. Batches stay small and stock deliberately low, to limit waste.
