Bijoux de Mur
A quotation arrives as several lines of black annealed iron wire, pinned to the wall in a neat row or scattered, depending on the mood. Laurence Lavoye calls these pieces bijoux de mur, jewellery for the wall. An artisan d'art, and self-taught, she has made this wire her way of writing: she uses it for calligraphy and shapes it by hand in her workshop in Nord-Isère. She settled in Isère, in the Pays des Couleurs, in 2015.
Craft runs in the family. Her father is a joiner and restorer of antique furniture. Her mother, Annie Lavoye, a Maître Artisan in textile design and silk painting, opened a shop in Venosc, in the Oisans, in 1991. Laurence joined the family workshop in 2007.
From the workshop come words, quotations and names to personalise, some offered in golden brass wire. There are also garlands, shapes and animals, and coloured pieces where the wire meets varnished papers. On the site, you can watch your own text take shape in wire before ordering.
