Serjaq
Two hands, a wheel, no mould: that is how Serjaq's pieces come into being, in a workshop in Nontron, in the heart of the Périgord vert. Marina draws the lines and shapes; Jonathan works on the chemistry of the glazes and the firing. Together they shape stoneware from French clays, smooth for their satin softness or grogged for their grain.
Their rule comes down to a clean divide. The everyday tableware, bowls, cups and pots, takes no coloured glaze: a glazed interior, an exterior left partly bare, sometimes picked out with black slip. Matt roughness outside, glossy softness within. Colour, deep blue, moss green or ash pink, is kept for the decorative pieces, vases and shallow bowls thrown one at a time. Alongside come gift boxes and made-to-measure series for restaurants, hotels and architects. Even in a series, each object keeps something of its own; the website and its journal tell the rest.
