Bespoke pétanque balls handmade in Marseille since 1904 - three generations of know-how.
Félix Rofritsch, an Alsatian who moved to Provence, started La Boule Bleue, a company that makes pétanque balls, in 1904 in Marseille. The first balls were made of wood and nails. Steel balls didn't come out until 1947, when the Rofritsch family made the first hardened carbon steel ball. The blue reflections from heat treatment gave the brand its name. La Boule Bleue has been making fully customizable triplets by hand in the Saint-Menet district of Marseille for four generations. The brand has the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant label.
Since 1904 in Marseille, La Boule Bleue has made bespoke pétanque balls by hand, father to son, across four generations — the oldest pétanque ball manufacturer in the world still in operation.
