Inusitado

Handmade paper goods, made in Porto since 2017

In Inusitado's Porto atelier, a hardcover is bound in fabric, a ribbon is slipped between the pages, a sheet takes its foil debossing in yellow, gold or copper. Since 2017, Ana Brandão and Joana Bernardo, both designers, have made notebooks, planners, leporellos, postcards and photo albums here by hand. Their starting point is a single idea: paper is not just a medium, it is an experience, a matter of texture, scent and the way it meets other materials. The gestures come from traditional bookbinding, an exposed spine on the planners, an accordion fold on the leporellos that open in one continuous movement, each fold marking a moment. The papers range from a 100gsm interior to a 250gsm cover, through to 240gsm recycled stock. Some pieces carry a specific story: the Saudade notebook, born during lockdown, was assembled from papers set aside over time, each copy numbered. The most sought-after set brings together one cover and three notebooks, meant to evolve at your own pace. Many pieces can be personalised with a name, a date or a few words. Local production, made to last, a deliberate step away from the screen, and available for pickup in Lisbon or Porto too.

Why we love this brand

Few stationery brands still make every piece by hand, from the fold to the foil debossing, in their own atelier. Inusitado has done exactly that in Porto since 2017, at times turning papers set aside into numbered notebooks. The result is objects that make you want to slow down and write by hand.
