3D printing and hand-engraved cork, made in the Haut-Jura
Twenty years designing pieces for the family firm Maison Jean-Pierre Lépine, including the Titanic pen, then a change of course: Benjamin Lépine now brings that machining discipline to 3D printing. In his workshop in Saint-Lupicin, in the heart of the Haut-Jura, he models, prints and then hand-finishes everyday objects, each one started on order, with no idle stock.
The material is a plant-based bio-material, free of petrochemical plastic, in matt, gloss or translucent shades. Natural cork provides the counterpoint, engraved by his own hand on the mills with the words « Design du Haut-Jura ». The forms come from the landscape: the ridged bark of the spruce, the tree of the Haut-Jura forests, on the pepper and salt mills; the irregular cells of Voronoi structures on the clocks, boxes and coasters; organic curves on the table lamps.
