Seifen Haag

In Stuttgart Feuerbach, the soap paste makes its first pass between the rollers. The fragrance goes in, the mass is kneaded, milled three times, then pressed through a perforated plate before each length is set into a cooled brass mould that gives it its final shape. The bars then dry for a week on wooden racks, as the craft demands. Seifen Haag has repeated these gestures since 1756, the year Johann Matthäas Hag founded the house on the Kanzleistraße. The family carried it through the generations: in 1880, Carl Friedrich Haag became a supplier to the royal court and produced a bitter almond soap for Queen Olga, her favourite scent. In 1952, one of their soaps was set out during Queen Elisabeth II's visit to the Neues Schloss. The original premises were completely destroyed in 1944, and it took until 2017 for Nicole Haag to reopen a small soap works in Stuttgart Feuerbach. There the work is done in small batches, on robust mechanical machinery, with exclusively plant-based oils and fats, caring additions and fragrances that can be tinted on request. Each bar can carry its own motif, shape and colour.
