Handmade Italian shoes from a designer who grew up in Mumbai
It begins with an aunt’s heels, slipped on by a little girl in Mumbai, in a family of dressmakers. A few years later, in art class, Jerelyn designs and makes her first pair of sandals. Her path then runs through the events industry, in India and the UK, through London College of Fashion, and on to Milan, where she moves in 2017 to study footwear design and pattern making. In late 2018 she launches Jerelyn Creado.
Every pair is made by hand in Italy, by artisans from Marche and Lombardy, in small made-to-order batches. Jerelyn sources the leather, soles and components herself, and follows the making alongside the artisan. The leather comes from tanneries holding Gold certification from the Leather Working Group. For women, pumps, sandals, flats and ankle boots; for men, derbies, oxfords, loafers, trainers and boots, Goodyear-welted or Blake-constructed depending on the model. Bags and belts complete the wardrobe. Her signature deserves a second look: a patented heel and burnt orange soles.
A designer who sources her own leather, soles and components, then follows the making alongside Italian artisans. A patented heel and burnt orange soles as a signature. And a conviction learnt from her mother in Mumbai: style is personal, it does not follow trends.
