Benzoin, a resin from the aliboufier, a tree grown in Laos, reaches Montrouge as amber droplets, then dissolves in a solution for several weeks before its perfume extracts are added. The solution, whose composition remains secret, soaks into a blotting-type paper, sheet by sheet, by hand. Six months and at least twelve steps go into a single booklet.\u003cbr\u003eBehind the gesture lies a story born in the late nineteenth century. Travelling in Armenia, Auguste Ponsot noticed that homes and sickrooms were scented and freshened by burning benzoin.
