Velen takes this bark, sourced from Portuguese suppliers, and works it by hand the way a workshop works leather. The house applies the gestures of fine leather craft to a plant material: it cuts, assembles and mounts a natural cork laminate set on a textile backing of cotton and polyester, lined with cotton inside. The result keeps cork's lightness and give, repels water and cleans with soap and water. No two pieces are the same. The grain draws its own veins, shades and ridges, so two bags cut side by side will never share a pattern. Around the workshop work artisans of several generations, some in leather goods for more than thirty years. The range runs from daily carry to travel: bags and backpacks, wallets and coin purses, belts, hats, wash bags, umbrellas, parasols and beach bags.
